Just because disgraced former WANTF Commander, Captain Wayne Robertson, is gone, that doesn’t mean that things are going to change at WANTF. Indeed, it’s possible that things could get worse. Based on what I’ve heard about the new head of WANTF, that doesn’t appear to be the case. The new head of WANTF is Captain Phil Simpson, and I’ve heard good things about him.
If the information that I have is correct, Captain Phil Simpson was a homicide detective, and he left Police Internal Affairs to become the head of WANTF. Considering Captain Simpson’s background in Internal Affairs, I’m hopeful that WANTF will be a much less corrupt organization than it was under disgraced former WANTF Commander, Captain Wayne Robertson.
Just because disgraced former WANTF Commanders, Captain Wayne Robertson and Captain Jeff Snyder (the former head of WANTF, who was sent to federal prison for stealing cash from drug busts) were not good stewards of their power, that doesn’t mean that Captain Simpson will also abuse his power. It appears that Captain Simpson is not cut from the same cloth as disgraced former WANTF Commanders, Captains Wayne Robertson and Jeff Snyder.
Although many of us don’t believe that the war on drugs is a good idea, or we disagree with how the war on drugs is being carried out, neither of those are the fault of the police officers who are sworn to uphold the law. For better or worse, politicians have decided to make drugs illegal and to carry out a war on drugs. While the narcotics task forces cannot be blamed for the laws being what they are, they can be blamed for the heavy-handed law enforcement tactics that were notoriously used under disgraced former WANTF Commander, Captain Wayne Robertson.
Maybe now that there’s a new leader of WANTF, there won’t be as much bullying and intimidating people into becoming narcs, and maybe there won’t be so much pressure put on narcs to produce busts, that they have to manufacture crimes against their victims in order to meet their quotas. If that happens, then WANTF will be working to achieve what they’ve actually been tasked to do, which is to get drugs off the streets – not simply get as many drug busts as possible by employing dirty tactics, such as using “reverse buys” (i.e., controlled sales), having narcs ask their victims to hook them up for drugs as a favor (i.e., buying drugs from people who aren’t really in the drug game), and resorting to entrapment (e.g., pimping out scared college girls to get horny men into trouble).
There were so many other things that I wanted to write about on this site, but since disgraced former WANTF Commander, Captain Wayne Robertson, is no longer the head of WANTF, I don’t know how relevant those ideas will be anymore. I’m still going to update the site when we get new confirmed narcs or people of interest, and I’ll still have frequent updates on the blog; however, I’m going to tone down the inflammatory rhetoric, because Captain Simpson deserves a chance to do his job without being heckled for the sins of his predecessors.
