Also, on St. Patrick's Day, I found out that Officer Stewart Coffee was no longer with WANTF (but he's still with the Tuscaloosa Police Department). Based on what I've heard, Officer Coffee was doing a lot of knock-and-talks right up until the bitter end (in order to get drug busts, because much of WANTF's funding is based on the number of drug busts they get-- big or small), so appears to have been doing whatever he could to stay on WANTF, but to no avail.
I know that many of you will be glad to know that Officer Coffee is no longer with WANTF, because he loved his job a little too much (especially the bullying and intimidating part), but the fact that someone who loved to bully and intimidate as much as Officer Coffee did wasn't quite good enough for WANTF is very telling. While it could be the case that Officer Coffee was reassigned because WANTF is trying to adopt a kinder gentler image, the fact that Officer Coffee was doing lots of knock-and-talks in an effort to remain on WANTF, tells me that it's still just a numbers game with WANTF. Simply put, if you're a WANTF agent, then you're expected to get arrests, however you've got to do it -- just get arrests. That being the case, much of the cause for the behavior of WANTF agents is structural (and therefore, to SOME extent, not the fault of the agents of WANTF) (the agents, however, still chose to be assigned to WANTF, so they deserve their fair share of blame), since the agents are under immense pressure to get numbers -- seemingly, by any means necessary.
